A charming resort, Châtel is one of the base camps of the famous ‘Les Portes du Soleil’ ski area (over 600 km of skiing in 12 Franco-Swiss resorts). Off the slopes, the little town has a lot to offer, from its old chalets with palines (vertical wooden boards, often carved, adorning the balconies), its lively village centre and its many small restaurants serving local specialities.
At the Portes du Soleil, young and old alike can enjoy the pleasures of powder snow, thanks to snowshoeing (with a special mention for the 1970m-high Morclan peak and its panoramic view over Châtel), dog sledding, mountain biking and snowboarding... and all the laughter that goes with it.
